What is Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot?

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are 5-year pilot programs that let qualified caregivers and their family members come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents.

If you’ve been offered a job in Canada as a caregiver or have experience working in Canada as a caregiver, you may be able to apply for permanent residence through one of these pilots.

The application process will be different depending on your situation and how much qualifying work experience you have.

Under this method, eligible individuals will first receive a work permit to enter Canada and, after gaining two years of Canadian work experience in the field, will be able to obtain permanent residency for themselves and their families.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to apply for the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot if you:

  • Have a genuine and valid job offer that is full-time ( at least 30 hours of paid work each week), from a Canadian employer, outside the province of Quebec, from an employer who’s not an embassy, high commission or consulate,
  • Meet the language level, which is Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English or French (CLB5 in all skills)
  • Meet the education requirement, which is a completed post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year in Canada or equal. (Evaluated by approved organization in Canada)
  • Are admissible to Canada
  • Plan to live outside the province of Quebec as a permanent resident
  • You don’t need to live in your employer’s home to qualify

Ability to do the work: they use any past experience or training you have to decide if you’re able to do the work described in the NOC job description (lead statement).

Eligible applicants must also submit a Canadian work permit application at the same time as applying for residency in Canada, and if the applicant meets the general immigration requirements (health and no criminal history) in addition to the specific conditions listed, they will first receive a Canadian work permit. After starting work in Canada and gaining 2 years of experience, they will receive permanent residence for themselves and their family.

Family members

Your family members are also eligible to come with you to Canada. If they want to work or study while in Canada, you can include their work or study permit applications with your application.
